Mandala for Universal Peace

6 monks of the Monastery Samten Choeling in Varanasi will build it with colored sands, posed on a horizontal square base of side 120 cm and high 20 cm from the floor. It appears in a two-dimensional aspect but should be thought of in three dimensions being the palace of god (Medicine’s Buddha). To complete a Mandala, a couple of days are needed and six monks taking part. They undertake to superimpose the precious grains during all morning and all afternoon before the public sat on pillows around Mandala’s base and protected by masks without dispersing the sand. As usual the Mandala is made with extreme precision and patience then destroyed and dispersed in water or in air (river, sea, mountain…) with a brief ceremony which can involve the public.
